If you’re a victim of sextortion, it’s important to remember it’s not your fault and there’s help out there.
If the person threatening you is a stranger, the safest thing you can do is to cease all contact, report the account to the platform and to authorities, block the offender and seek support.
If the person threatening you is a former or current partner, or someone known to you, it’s important you seek advice and support from someone like a domestic and family violence support professional who can help you to decide the safest course of action.
If you’re under 18, you can report sextortion to the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation. If you’re over 18, you can report sextortion to a digital platform, the police, your school or workplace, or to the eSafety Commissioner.
Also, if you're worried about your intimate images being shared online and you have a copy of the image, you can "digitally hash" your image to prevent it being shared on particular platforms. These tools scan your image to create a digital fingerprint that can be used to identify copies of your image if they are shared on participating platforms. If you’re under 18, you can use Take It Down, or if you're over 18, you can use StopNCII.
