Spider Crab Watch was founded with funding from the Port Phillip Bay Fund and a Coastcare grant, both provided by the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action. The Spider Crab Watch research team also received funding through Park Victoria’s Volunteering Innovation Fund.

Kit Prendergast has received a Federal Government Bushfire Recovery Grant and a Australian Wildlife Society grant. Kit has an affiliation with the environmental non-profit Greening Australia.
