November 2019: The first class action lawsuit was filed against the Commonwealth government, then the Morrison Coalition government.
November 2020: The government settled the initial class action, agreeing to repay $751 million in unlawfully collected debts and providing $112 million in interest.
July 2023: The final report of the Royal Commission into the Robodebt Scheme was released, delivering a scathing assessment of the program and its architects.
September 2024: Following the royal commission's findings, an appeal to the original class action settlement was launched, introducing new claims.
September 2025: The federal government agreed to a new, second settlement of $475 million, in addition to the previous repayments, debt forgiveness and interest payments.
