2021: junior Liberal staffer Brittany Higgins alleged she was sexually assaulted in Parliament House in March 2019. Bruce Lehrmann was later named as the man charged with assaulting her. He denied any wrongdoing.
2022: the matter went to trial in the Australian Capital Territory, but was aborted without a verdict because of juror misconduct. Rape charges against Lehrmann were later dropped.
2023: Lehrmann sued Network 10 and Lisa Wilkinson for allegedly defaming him during Higgins' 2021 TV interview with The Project.
2024: Federal Court Justice Michael Lee finds Lehrmann was not defamed and, on the balance of probabilities, he raped Higgins in 2019. Lehrmann is appealing the verdict.
